There are many different ways to enjoy holidays to Lanzarote, but they all have one thing in common – lots of sun without unbearable heat, because summer day time temperatures typically reach a maximum of 28 to 29 degrees, with eight or nine hours of sunshine. It’s not too hot to do something active, if you want to. But it’s hot enough to do nothing much, if you prefer.
Holidays to Lanzarote on the ‘nothing much’ basis could mean relaxing around the pool at your hotel or self catering apartment complex, or taking the (often) short walk to the nearest sandy beach to continue doing nothing much, only closer to the sea.
The main resorts for holidays to Lanzarote are located on coastal thoroughfares, lined with bars, restaurants and shops; with beaches to one side and accommodation on the other – everything you need, lined up ready for you. It could have been a mess but it works well because the services and facilities are pitched at just the right level to be both smart and affordable.
Holidays to Lanzarote resorts have their own individual character. Puerto del Carmen is the biggest and busiest place, with the most popular nightlife, but also includes quieter areas such as Matagorda and Playa de los Pocillos. Costa Teguise and Playa Blanca are both smaller and more relaxed, while the latter is also the location of the ferry port for trips to the nearby island of Fuerteventura.
There is, however, one location that has a different kind of appeal – Puerto Calero, which is mostly a harbour full of big, luxurious private boats, some of which can be hired for big game fishing.
Accommodation options are very similar in each resort – either hotels offering all inclusive holidays to Lanzarote or room and breakfast options or self catering apartment complexes, both usually consisting of large pools surrounded by low rise buildings painted white.
For those on a self catering or room and breakfast basis there are lots of places to eat out, ranging from Tapas bars through Chinese and Indian restaurants to a Japanese restaurant that presents its food so beautifully you hesitate to eat it – for a second or two anyway.
Holidays to Lanzarote Activities
Excursions available around the island include a very popular visit to the Timanfaya National Park, created by volcanic eruptions a few hundred years ago. Where you will see a demonstration of the power that still lies beneath the surface, and ride across part of it on a camel. Another unusual feature is the Rancho Texas that provides attractions as diverse as an Indian village, white tigers, a chance to swim with dolphins, parrot displays and an evening barbecue with line dancing.
Two popular water based attractions for those taking holidays to Lanzarote are an underwater trip in a yellow submarine and a sailing trip on a huge catamaran. There are also facilities for a wide range of water-sports, including scuba diving, sailing, waterskiing and windsurfing, as well as two golf courses and a lot of tennis courts.
The unique visitor attractions in Lanzarote are the organic architectural creations of Cesar Manrique, including Jameos Del Agua with its concert auditorium in a cave and Mirador del Rio, surprising visitors with a shockingly sudden, spectacular view. These are sights you won’t find anywhere else.
